FAQ
Lisbon Winery
Answering your questions

Answering some of the most important and frequent questions that we get at the Lisbon Winery.

What is included in a wine tasting session at Lisbon Winery?
Each tasting includes premium Portuguese wines, curated cheese and charcuterie pairings, an extra virgin olive oil tasting and expert guidance from our team of top sommeliers.

What will be served at the wine tasting?
Our selection of Portuguese wines is different everyday and it changes according to several factors. The rule is 2 whites, 2 reds and 1 Port. But the specific wines will vary. Our team of sommeliers can even change the selection during the tasting to adjust to the group’s preference. But also temperatures and weather outside can help decide – if it is colder, for example, a full body red will probably be perfect. We also taste new wines every week and we love sharing our discoveries in the tastings.

Where is the Lisbon Winery located?
Lisbon Winery is located in central Lisbon, at Rua Rodrigues Sampaio 18A. This is just just on the back of Avenida da Liberdade, the biggest and most important avenue in Lisbon. It is very central and easy to get to. We are just on the back of the Louis Vuitton Lisbon store. Here is a Google maps link to help you get to us: https://share.google/1PCGwozbezIEF7b8S

Does the Lisbon Winery have cellars and vineyards?
Lisbon Winery is a wine tasting center and a wine bar located in the center of Lisbon. We are not a wine estate. We are located right next to Avenida da Liberdade, one of the most prestigious, most expensive and busiest avenues in Europe. In this area, located right in the heart of the Portuguese capital, there are no wine estates or vineyards, as these are located outside the city. If you want to taste top wines from different wine regions, different Portuguese producers without having to worry with distances, transportations and time spent during the trips to the countryside, then, we are a perfect option.

Can we visit your cellars?
We do not have cellars. We are curators of top Portuguese boutique wines. We work with different small producers, choosing top wines to be part of our wine tastings and always changing our selection to offer new discoveries to our visitors.

What types of Portuguese wine tastings do you offer?
We offer 3 main types of tasting: the Premium Portuguese Wine Tasting, the Premium Port Wine Tasting and the Deluxe Wine Tasting.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking online in advance to guarantee your spot. Walk-ins for the wine tastings will only be accepted depending on availability of sommeliers. By booking in advance, you help us prepare better for your experience. We will have everything ready – wines, food, sommeliers – to offer you the top experience you deserve.

What if I book last minute?
Our calendars with updated availability are always online, in our website. You may book up to 30 minutes before the tasting if there are spots available.

How long do the wine tastings last?

The wine tastings last between 1h30 and 2 hours, depending on the group size and if there are more or less questions from the participants.

How many people can join the tasting?

The group wine tastings work with a maximum of 12 people. We welcome individuals, couples, and groups. Private sessions and corporate events can accommodate larger groups upon request.

What is the maximum capacity of the Lisbon Winery?
The maximum capacity of the Lisbon Winery is 60 people seated down. Larger groups can be accommodated in a buffet serving.

Are tastings available in English?
Yes — our sommeliers are fluent in English and happy to guide you through the world of Portuguese wine in English, Portuguese or Spanish.

Do you offer private or corporate wine tastings in Lisbon?
Absolutely. We host private sessions, corporate team-building events, and special group tastings tailored to your preferences. Please check this link for more information.

I have a group with more than 60 people for the wine tasting. Can you accommodate?
The Lisbon Winery has a maximum seated capacity of 60 guests seated down. For a group of 100 people, the option would be our buffet service, which can accommodate a maximum of 100 guests.
How does the buffet service work? Your group will have exclusive use of the entire Lisbon Winery. This is a standing event rather than a seated one. A large central table will be designed and arranged with abundant servings of cheeses, charcuterie, fresh fruit, pastéis de nata (Portuguese custard tarts), and more. If you are interested in this option, please send an email to info@lisbonwinery.com with the information: day, time, number of people.

What makes Lisbon Winery’s experience unique?
We focus exclusively on rare, small-production Portuguese wines — most with fewer than 4,000 bottles made — for a truly authentic tasting. Our sommeliers are all certified and passionate about wine. We like having fun with the wine, so our wine tastings are informal and fun.

Can I buy the wines I taste during the session?
Yes, selected wines are available for purchase so you can take a piece of Portugal home. Please have in mind that we only work with small producers. This means we have a limited quantity of bottles, that can easily sell out.

Do you offer vegetarian or vegan options?
For vegetarians, we reinforce our cheese offer. Unfortunately, we currently do not offer vegan options. Vegetarian participants must inform us in advance of their special request.

Are children allowed to attend a tasting?
Tastings are exclusively for adults. Children and minors are not allowed to attend, even as non-drinking companions. Lisbon Winery reserves the right to deny entry to any reservation that includes minors, and in such cases, the standard cancellation policy will apply.

Do you serve non-alcoholic beverages or mocktail options?
We do not provide non-alcoholic alternatives.

What regions of Portugal are represented in your wine tastings?
All our wine tastings are different and unique. We like travelling all over the country. Our selections include wines from the Douro, Alentejo, Dão, Bairrada, Lisboa, and Vinho Verde regions. Sometimes, we also taste wines from Açores, Madeira, Tejo, etc.

Are your sommeliers certified or trained in Portuguese wines?
Yes, our sommeliers are all experienced professionals, certified by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and/or by the Portuguese Sommeliers Association. They are experts in Portuguese wine regions and native grape varieties.

What are the wine tastings times?
The wine tastings take place at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm.

How do I get to Lisbon Winery by public transport?
We are located near Avenida or Marquês de Pombal metro stations. Taxis and Uber rides are also easily available.

Is Lisbon Winery accessible for wheelchairs or people with limited mobility?
We have an outdoor area that is wheelchair accessible and also an interior deck area that is also wheelchair accessible. The access to the WCs is done by the stairs and a bit more complicated. Please contact us to learn more details.

Can I celebrate a birthday or private event during a tasting?
Yes, our venue can be reserved for birthdays, anniversaries, and private events with personalised setups. Birthday celebrations have to be done in private tables – not collective tastings.

Do you offer gift vouchers or wine tasting experiences to give as a present?
Yes — gift vouchers are available and make a great present for wine lovers visiting Lisbon. Below our reservation calendars, you always have the option of buying the tasting as a Gift.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
Reservations can be rescheduled or canceled in advance; check our terms & conditions during booking for specific details.

Do you host themed or custom wine tastings?
Yes, we can organize bespoke tastings — for example, focusing only on Port wines, red wines, sparklings or a specific region.

What language options are available for tastings?
Tastings are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Private sessions can sometimes be arranged in other languages upon request.

Do you have reviews or recommendations from travel experts?
Lisbon Winery is recommended by Rick Steves and featured in several international travel guides. We have also collected more than 2,000+ five-star reviews in online platforms like Google, TripAdvisor, Get Your Guide, Viator, Yelp, etc.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and digital payments such as Apple Pay.

Is it suitable for beginners or only wine experts?
Our tastings are designed for everyone — from complete beginners to seasoned wine enthusiasts.

Are hygiene and safety measures in place?
Yes, all glassware and utensils are carefully sanitized, and hygiene standards are maintained at all times. We work with industrial washing machines using temperatures of 90º Celsuis and guaranteeing the efficient desinfection of all glasses and utensils. Hygiene is a priority and obsession for us since we opened, in 2015. We have strong routines implemented and checked every day at the Lisbon Winery-

Do I need to bring anything with me?
No — just bring your confirmation email (digital is fine) and a curiosity for great Portuguese wine. To provide the best tasting experience for everyone, we kindly request that you avoid wearing strong perfumes, colognes, or heavily scented products during your visit. Intense fragrances can disrupt the subtle aromas of the wines and impact others’ ability to fully appreciate the tasting. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Is there a noise level or group behavior policy?
Yes. We kindly ask our guests to maintain a respectful noise level, which is essential so everyone can clearly hear their sommelier’s commentary and fully enjoy the experience. There’s no need to sit in silence or whisper! We believe wine tasting should be fun, lively, and informal. We simply ask guests to be mindful of their volume so nearby guests and tables can comfortably follow their sommelier’s commentary.

Can I take photos or videos during the tasting?
Photography and short videos for social media are welcome! We just kindly ask you to avoid recording extended video or audio of the full presentation. As a polite courtesy, please ask for permission before filming the sommelier directly.

What happens if I arrive late for my tasting?
Because sommeliers often have back-to-back bookings, late arrivals may result in a shortened tasting experience, as sessions cannot be extended.

What happens if our flight is delayed or weather is bad?
External factors such as flight delays, travel disruptions, or bad weather are not considered eligible grounds for a last-minute refund. Please have in mind that we prepare for your tasting long before it happens to make sure everything goes perfect.

How can I contact Lisbon Winery for more information or special requests?
