A bit more about Lisbon Michelin Star Restaurants

Alma (2 Michelin Stars) – Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa
A contemporary celebration of Portuguese flavors, Alma combines innovation with tradition. Chef Sá Pessoa’s culinary artistry highlights regional ingredients in a refined yet approachable way, offering a multi-sensory dining experience.

We had the best meal of 2023 here. Chef Sá Pessoa can definitely surprise. We loved the foie gras paired with Madeira wine and went crazy basically with all the fish dishes on the tasting menu.

Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa has decided to do a revolution in his project. In 2026, his dream is moving to a different location (Páteo Bagatela) and the restaurant will have a new name. So, starting from zero. This means, of course, a lot of work for the chef, but, based on what he has delivered until now, we are confident that it will be a blast.

Belcanto (2 Michelin Stars) – Chef José Avillez
Belcanto blends modern techniques with deep-rooted Portuguese traditions. José Avillez’s cutting-edge cuisine takes diners on a flavorful journey, highlighting the country’s rich culinary heritage with a creative and elegant twist.

Our last time in Belcanto was in 2019 and we did the chef’s table. The experience was great, but in all honesty I have to confess that I was expecting more. Food was amazing, but the menu felt a bit unbalanced at the time. The experience should include a live view to each food station, but screens were not working on that day. Bad luck, I guess, but I think it limited the experience a bit. The wine pairing didn’t convince, specially because the sommelier offered minimum commentary or information about the wines served.

So, top experience, of course. But definitely with room for improvement, at least on the night we did it.

2 Monkeys (1 Michelin Star) – Chefs Vítor Matos & Francisco Quintas (now with new chefs)
This trendy restaurant offers inventive dishes that play with texture and flavor, celebrating the art of gastronomy with a focus on fresh, local ingredients. Known for its modern approach, the restaurant now has new chefs pushing the boundaries of creativity.

Marlene (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Marlene
Let’s put it simply: we love this woman. Chef Marlene has cooked the best carabineiro (scarlet shrimp) that I have ever had in my life. One of the best meals of my existence. So, yes, we are fans.

Known for her deep respect for Portuguese flavors combined with modern technique, Marlene brings personality and precision to every dish, transforming familiar ingredients into refined, memorable creations. The Michelin recognition not only celebrates the restaurant’s culinary excellence but also marks a significant milestone for female leadership in Portugal’s fine-dining scene.

Cura (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Pedro Pena Bastos
Cura offers a refined, minimalist experience that highlights the beauty of seasonal ingredients. Chef Pedro Pena Bastos’s sophisticated dishes elevate Portuguese gastronomy with international influences and meticulous presentation.

Eleven (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Joachim Koerper
With stunning views of Lisbon, Eleven presents a modern take on Mediterranean cuisine. Chef Joachim Koerper combines clean flavors and sustainable ingredients in a sophisticated setting, offering an unforgettable fine dining experience.

Top experience here in 2022, with a more traditional approach. Loved the map with traditional Portuguese cheeses and, of course, the view of Lisbon at night is pretty amazing.

Encanto (1 Michelin Star) – Chef José Avillez
Encanto invites guests into an intimate, artistic dining environment where José Avillez’s innovative approach to Portuguese cuisine takes center stage. The menu explores modern interpretations of traditional dishes, creating a balance of nostalgia and novelty.

Epur (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Vincent Farges
Epur stands out with its sleek, contemporary design and a menu that celebrates modern French cuisine with a focus on seasonal Portuguese ingredients. Chef Vincent Farges brings precision and creativity to every plate, offering a refined dining experience.

Feitoria (1 Michelin Star) – Chef André Cruz (temporarily closed)
At Feitoria, Chef André Cruz brings creativity and technique together to craft dishes inspired by the seasons. The menu emphasizes the purity of flavors, offering a journey through Portugal’s natural bounty with global culinary influences.

Fifty Seconds (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Rui Silvestre
Under the guidance of Chef Rui Silvestre, Fifty Seconds is entering a new chapter. The idea is to focus on the finest local ingredients and pay special attention to sustainability. Silvestre’s refined technique and artistic presentation have earned praise, positioning Fifty Seconds as a destination for food lovers seeking a cutting-edge, immersive gastronomic experience with a unique sense of place.

Kabuki Lisboa (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Sebastião Coutinho
A fusion of Japanese and Mediterranean cuisines, Kabuki Lisboa presents a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. Chef Sebastião Coutinho expertly combines tradition with contemporary techniques to craft a unique dining experience that delights the senses.

Probably one of the best meals of 2024 and definitely one of the best sushi experiences ever. Outstanding ingredients.

Kanazawa (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Paulo Morais
Specializing in high-end sushi and traditional Japanese techniques, Kanazawa offers an authentic and intimate dining experience. Chef Paulo Morais is one of the most important sushi chef’s in Portugal and ensures the utmost attention to detail in every dish, creating a perfect balance of simplicity and precision.

Loco (1 Michelin Star) – Chef Alexandre Silva
Loco is a culinary playground where Chef Alexandre Silva’s boundary-pushing dishes blend global flavors and innovative techniques. The intimate atmosphere and ever-evolving menu make it a bold, exciting choice for adventurous food lovers.

We have been to Loco several times and it is for sure one of our favorite Lisbon Michelin Star Restaurants. If you are looking for outside the box, this it. One of the highlights of these visits to Loco was the pairing with natural juices. Yes, we were not in the mood for alcohol that day and decided to go with the alternative pairing, which was absolutely surprising and interesting.

Sála (1 Michelin Star) – Chef João Sá
Sála offers a chic and innovative approach to modern cuisine, with Chef João Sá crafting inventive dishes that combine Portuguese ingredients with international techniques. The focus is on balance and creativity, delivering a memorable gastronomic experience.

Grenache – Chef Philippe Gelfi
Led by chef Philippe Gelfi, Grenache brings a refined French technique to the historical area of the Lisbon castle. A great mix of precision, harmony and creativity served in every course.

Intimate setting, sophisticated experience but, in my opinion, deserving a more ambitious place that the small old house where it is located. The sommelier service needs to grow, but Grenache clearly gives vibes of wanting to be better and ascend to the Olimpo of the Lisbon restaurants.

Grenache offers guests tasting menus like Grenache and Experience that showcase precision, harmony and creativity in every course. Tucked away in the charming Pátio de Dom Fradique near the Castelo de São Jorge, it’s a standout destination for lovers of fine dining seeking an intimate, sophisticated experience in Lisbon’s vibrant fine-dining scene.
